35 Equestrian Qs & As

I found this questionnaire from L. Williams at Viva Carlos, that I thought I'd answer. :)

1: A time you've been scared for your life on horseback.
That's a hard one....I can't remember when I was actually scared for my life on horseback, but when I was on the ground definitely

2: There's a huge party at your friends house or you could have a lesson on the same night, which do you go to?
I would rather have a lesson and show up late to the party.

3: Favorite markings a horse can have.
Socks, stockings, & any face markings :)

4: Would you rather deal with bolting, rearing or bucking?
Bucking

5: Agree or disagree; To have good eq means to be a good rider?
Disagree, just because you have good eq doesn't make you a good rider. I will quote L's answer: "You can have good eq and not be effective, you can be effective and not have good eq, and you can be blessed and have both."

6: If you could try any discipline on any horse for 1 day, what discipline and what horse?
Jumping or cutting :)

7: 3 horses you'd want to ride/meet the most?
          1. Secretariat
          2. Cylana (Reed's horse)
          3.  Magic   (Pat's horse)

8: On a scale of 1-10 how good would you say your seat is?
7

9: One of your goals for the next year, horse-wise.
To show, start jumping more, & riding more.

10: Would you rather teach lessons or train horses?

Train horses

11: Have you ever given a lesson for money?
No

12: If you were a trainer, would you want to train little kids, pre-teens, teens or adults?
Pre-teens, teens, & adults

13: Have you ever ridden someone's horse for money?
No

14: If given the opportunity, would you exercise track horses?
Yes!

15: On a scale of 1-10 what is your confidence like in the saddle?
Maybe a 4-5, I hope to improve on that this year. :)

16: 3 things you need to work on, riding-wise?
Don't make "scary" things a big deal, confidence, & realizing that Bida is capable of more things than I realize.

17: 3 things your horse needs to work on.
Maintaining gait, listening to me & not worrying about whats going on around her, and staying calm.

18. Top 3 favorite riders?
Reed Kessler, Pat Parelli, & Ron Turcotte

19: Is there anyone you'd say is a bad rider? (don't give names)
Yes

20: Are you better on the flat or over fences?
Flat right now, I haven't jumped a whole lot.

21: How high do you think you've jumped?
A foot & a half, maybe 2 feet.

22: How high do you think your horse would be capable of jumping?
2 1/2-3ish feet?

23: Opinion on tackless riding.
I love to ride tackless when I get the chance.

24: Have you ever lied or over-dramatized anything about your riding?

I don't think I have, but if I did it was probably something negative.

25: Do you think you're a good rider?
Yes, but I think I could definitely improve too.

26: Ever had barn drama?
YES!  I think every barn has drama.

27: Favorite things about the barn you're at?
Quite roads to ride on, trails, round pen, private pasture, arena, & nice boarders.

28: Will you show next year? If so in what?
I hope to show in a few small shows next year. Halter class, western stuff, & maybe english too.

29: Plans for your horse over the next year?
Show in a few shows, go on some trail rides, do something with cows, & have fun!!!

30: Would you share your tack with people?
No, I probably wouldn't....unless I absolutely had too.

31: Has a horse ever shattered your confidence?
Yes, believe it or not Bida has. But we are both learning and my confidence has grown a lot over the past year.

32: Ever been scared to get on a horse?
Yes, when I first got Bida.  She spooked and reared up one day; after that I was pretty scared to get back on, but I did with the help of my trainer. :)

33: Do you get nervous before shows?
Doesn't everyone? Yes, I did at the shows I've attended.

34: Hunters or Jumpers?
Jumpers

35: Last time you fell off? What happened? Were you hurt?
Last & only time so far was when: I was riding bareback in the pasture, Bida spooked and bucked me off.  I landed in a fire ant pile and my backside was bruised for a couple of weeks.

Second Lesson of the Season!!!!!

Emma Chase
Emma with Bida,
Progress Entry: Sat 11 May 2013

Online Level 2
15 minutes

FreeStyle Level 2
45 minutes
Notes:
So I had a rough start this evening with Bida. I decided to hop on her bareback & ride her to the barn, I didn't want to walk through all the mud puddles and thought it would be a great experience for Bida to walk through the water. Well, she had other ideas I was on her about a minute and she started bucking.....so the second she landed back on the ground I hopped off and got her under control & walked her up to the barn instead of riding. I went to the car to get her saddled and ready for our lesson, which was a great one!!!! We rode on the rode for about 45 minutes, just her... no other horses. She did amazing!!!! After that my trainer showed me how to help her learn how to pick up her back feet and to teach her how she is supposed to do it & not kick. She did awesome!!!! I hopefully have another lesson next Friday evening.....weather permitting!! Can't wait! :)
